Around the World

Posted by Justin

Star Wars is not playing at Grauman's Chinese. The best theatre in the world. Where all the prequels have opened. I'm waiting in line for a movie not playing at this theatre. Why FOX, why?

I must see Star Wars in the best theatre possible. Anywhere. To that end, I want to embark on a 2 week worldwide tour of the best movie theatres anywhere. Tokyo. Sydney. San Fran. Chicago. NYC. London. Does anything really compare to Grauman's Chinese, anywhere?

Please help. I need the best Star Wars experience ever to make up for the fallout of the line.

Wait, what was the question?

42!!

We went and saw Hitchiker's Guide last night.  It was pretty cool -- LUN Central was down to a few hardcore "I already saw it because I'm best friends with someone at AICN" types, while about 30 of us trucked down the street to the El Cap.   Yes, it would have been cooler if 12 more people had come, but what can you do?  Opinions on the show were mixed; the people who liked it the most, are the ones who never read the books.  Typical.

We had three birthdays over the last day and a half -- one person turned 18, another turned 20, and I'm not sure how old the other person is now.  What's up with April birthdays, anyway?

Ummm, for the most part, excluding my personal adventures in cleaning my laundry (and yes, hauling one week of clothing -- soaked -- one mile uphill, finding out you went the wrong way, and then going back to your starting point and continuing to your original destination = less fun than it sounds) that's all I've got to report.  I still haven't gone to 7-11, dang it.  I went halfway there, but then we had breakfast at IHOP instead of getting Slurpees.  I need to start writing memos to myself.

OMG SPOILERSSZZ!!!!!!1111one

Ack!  The cups from 7-11 are SPOILER LADEN!  Woe is me, woe is me.  Sigh.  Fortunately, it's just an image or two, and I looked away right off.  It's terribly unfortunate, of course, but considering I've only caught  half-resolved glances of about six images, and heard all of one second of recycled trilogy music during  the first trailer, I think I'm doing good.

Technically, I haven't gone to 7-11 yet.  Certain responsible people said we shouldn't leave the line all at the same time.  D'oh.  I'll probably go tomorrow.  Meanwhile there are now four or five Spoiler Slurpees wandering around LUN Central.  The struggle continues...

Pilgrimage to 7-11

It has come to our attention that there are Star Wars themed Slurpee cups and toppers to be had at 7-11.  There is a location a mere half mile from LUN Central -- victory is in sight, or it would be if the Roosevelt Hotel weren't in the way.

Will keep all interested parties fully informed as to our progress, as always.

Rain Rain. Where are the clones.

Posted by: Justin
The rain came down hard last night, destroying morale and equipment. Blankets, Sleeping Bags, cookies, paperwork, laptops, servers, cameras all soaked. The gazebo structure leaked, the legs fell, the banners came down. The line is in LA for a reason - it never rains. Its not supposed to at least.

Of course several people sensed the rain beforehand, and went home. The #3 person in line conveniently left. Thus a die-hard group of 9 people struggled through beating rain, slippery sidewalks, risk of electrical shock, and drenched non-rain clothing. We're all here on the other side, exhausted.

Credit to the amazing manufacturers of equipment here. Fuji Digital Cameras, Dell laptops, Shuttle PC, SBC DSL equipment, Cisco Routers, Panasonic DV... even with intense water exposure, everything still works. The line has certainly become the ultimate product test.

Life is boring without unexpected circumstances. The die-hards now have a story to tell.
